Female chest tattoos
a common area in need of touch up… the female chest. whether your tattoo is on the sternum, our outermost chest area, i think we all agree the chest tattoo is one of the hardest to heal for a woman. the main reasons i’ve noticed, are a)cleavage and b)constantly shifting of weight (ie: breasts).
the cleavage factor: basically if the tattoo is constantly at a bend or is gathered in the middle, it can cause the tattoo to scab and lose color, especially in summer, when even the tiniest amount of sweat can cause you unnecessary pain. to help with this, try to keep your chest as clean and dry as possible, using a little less moisturizer in the middle where your body naturally sweats a little more. this will ensure your scabbing/ peeling isn’t staying wet and falling out.
shifting weight: this can be a serious issue especially if you have a larger chest. since you do most of your healing at night, while asleep, its normal to wake up with a little extra tightness or dryness in the morning. then sitting up or standing up can cause the skin that was contently smooshed together for eight+ hours, to pull apart and crack or bleed. ouchies. you may want to sleep in a sports bra and keep your lotion close to bed. i like to keep a spray bottle of clean distilled water or saline solution handy, to lightly mist the area and get the super dryness to go away, but only use this is you have to, and only on the way into the shower or before lotion.
you may want to wear a sports bra anyway, just because its easier on your tattoo to have a stable place to heal, rather than a super tight, constantly moving and sweating area. i know it sounds gross, but trust me, you don’t want the alternative.
if you follow these steps, i’m confident your chest will heal beautifully. and i think chest tattoos are one of the prettiest things a woman could get, as long as it’s thought out and done properly :)
i’ve seen a lot of chest pieces that heal really marbled (meaning the scabbing/ cracking/ bleeding caused a scar pattern of bolt-like shapes, resembling cracks and veins in marble) that could’ve easily been prevented had the rules of physics and gravity been taken into consideration.
